Introduction

A document management system that runs inside your own Oracle database, built with Oracle APEX. The alternative to Oracle Content Management (OCM), which reached end-of-life on December 31, 2025.

APEX Document Management (ADM) is a document management system built with Oracle APEX and PL/SQL. It installs into a schema in your own database: your files, your metadata and your audit trail never leave it. Oracle Content Management reached end-of-life on December 31, 2025, and ADM is built to be the place that content moves to.

Because it lives in your database, it is not a black box. Every feature in the APEX app is also a documented PL/SQL API you can call from your own code, and the data model is yours to query.

Folders and documents

A hierarchical filesystem with per-user and per-group home folders, unlimited nesting, and a trash folder that makes deletion recoverable. Read more

Versions and history

Every upload of an existing file becomes a new version. Restore an old one, compare two of them, or delete a single version. Read more

Search and taxonomy

Full-text search over file content through Oracle Text, plus key/value tags and a faceted search interface built on them. Read more

Sharing and access control

Share with users and groups at view or edit level, or hand out a public link with a password and an expiry date. Read more

Editing and previewing

Open Office documents in the browser and save back into ADM, convert files to PDF, edit images, and leave comments on a document. Read more

Records management

Retention policies that delete on a schedule and block deletion before it, and legal holds that block it indefinitely. Read more

Audit trail

Who did what to which file, when. Queryable as a table, browsable per file and folder in the admin section. Read more

Your choice of storage

Keep file content in the database, or move it to OCI Object Storage with checksum verification and background migration. Read more

Extend and embed

PL/SQL APIs for everything, hooks that fire on upload and folder creation, and embed tokens that put an ADM folder inside another APEX app. Read more

AI Pack

An optional add-on: RAG collections over your documents, semantic search, generated answers with sources, and ADM as a tool for your own AI agents. Read more

It is your data. ADM is a set of tables and packages in your schema. There is no external service in the request path, nothing to sign a data processing agreement over, and no export step if you want to build a report on top of your own documents.

It integrates instead of sitting beside. Deploy it next to your existing APEX applications and reach into it with PL/SQL APIs, region plug-ins and embed tokens — see Embedding ADM into other applications.

An OCM alternative. Purpose-built for the gap Oracle Content Management left behind, with a migration path for existing OCM content.
