Practical AI in PL/SQL Made Easy

This is the sample APEX app shown in our UC Live webinar. It provides examples you can run and adapt. It covers simple text generation, structured output, reasoning, file analysis, and tool usage.

What it demonstrates

Each page maps to a UC AI feature so you can see the input, the code, and the result side by side:

  • Text generation — a basic prompt/response screen backed by generate_text. The “hello world” of the SDK.
  • Structured output — the model returns JSON that conforms to a schema, ready to store in columns. See the Structured Output guide.
  • Reasoning — shows how to enable and display the model’s step-by-step reasoning for harder questions.
  • File analysis — upload a PDF or image and ask questions about it (File Analysis guide).
  • Tool usage — the model calls PL/SQL functions to read and act on data in the app’s tables (Tools guide).

Setup Instructions

Section titled “Setup Instructions”
  • You need to have UC AI already installed in your database schema (see Installation).
  • Download the APEX app
  • Then import the APEX app and install supporting objects.
  • Configure your API keys as described in Installation → Set up API Keys.
  • For OCI and Ollama modify the reset_global_variables procedure in pame_pkg to set your credentials.
